Our Breeding Philosophy

We concentrate on producing genetically balanced seed stock, which excel in multiple traits. Our cattle are designed to calve easily, grow fast, produce top notch carcass traits and do this in a grass environment. Our cowherd is expected to do this, while breeding back within 60-70 days on grass. They are on grass 365 days per year, with only limited hay and protein supplement when needed. Our calving season lasts from mid-November through December, so a lot is expected of them! When making breeding decisions, we utilize ALL EPD's and will help you buy bulls that will excel in all traits. We have taken scrotal measurements on our entire bull calf crops since 1980.

Our program has been based on the use of artificial insemination, embryo transfer and DNA testing in order to produce the best genetics possible. During the last 25 years, we have consigned bulls to the Calhoun and Tifton Bull Test Stations to prove that our bulls posess the performance and have the genetic capability to work in the commercial environment. Our consignment broke the 30 year gain record for all breeds at Tifton for average daily gain (5.54) and weight per day of age (4.10).

We began utilizing Carcass Ultrasound in 1994 and now, we ultrasound both the bulls and heifers each year, so that we "will know where we stand" as far as carcass traits in our herd.

Our heifers are bred A.I. to top Simmental or Angus calving ease sires. Mature cows are A.I.'d at least one time to top Simmental or Angus bulls. High quality Herd Sires are used after A.I. to breed any cows who don't conceive to the A.I. breeding. The breeding season length is approximately 45-60 days. All cows are pregnancy checked about 45 days after the conclusion of the breeding season and any open cows are removed from the breeding herd.
